Europe rewards Italian technology. The European Aluminium Foil Association, the biggest aluminium manufacturing and technology industry group, awarded its Alufoil Trophy 2014 in the Resource Efficiency category to Linate-based Rotoprint Sovrastampa in Milan Province for helping customers to save energy and promote environmental sustainability.
Rotoprint Sovrastampa’s new device makes it possible to correct mistakes, alter graphics and texts or even completely turn them into packaging material. This is a key issue for businesses as it involves high costs for inventory and waste-treatment of obsolete or defective materials as well as for the manufacture of new packaging.
The Eafa award represents a particular example of what Rotoprint Sovrastampa does. «One customer – said Luca Arici, who heads the company with father and founder Gian Carlo, – came up with a new apricot flavour for his fruit-with-a-spoon line and had large inventory of spooled aluminium already printed with a strawberry logo for punnet lids. So he asked us to transform it completely by over-printing it with material needed for his new product».
«It’s a fantastic result – noted Marc Caul, technical manager for packaging at Tesco and member of Eafa awards panel. – When we usually talk about the efficient use of resources, we simply imagine a reduction of the material used. But here we’re talking about 100% recycling of material that would otherwise have been thrown away, so the award is altogether deserving».
