Artificial intelligence drives the tractor

Agriculture is experiencing digital transformation in vehicles, too. The new tractors are electric, they also act as generators, and thanks to artificial intelligence they improve the workflow. They also bring the future closer with such services as autonomous driving for particular types of fields.

Monarch MKV tractor uses Nvidia’s artificial intelligence to improve the performance of the vehicle with or without a driver. It is a latest generation electric tractor that offers a new level of exceptional performance in terms of energy efficiency and power. By collecting data from the sensors and processing them with artificial intelligence, the tractor is able to automatically adapt to the conditions of the soil and the load, optimizing the power used and more generally the energy consumption. Furthermore, the software analyzes medium-term data, allowing the tractor to learn from past experiences, continuously improving its performance over time.

Of course, innovations that are too extreme do not always find total acceptance, so it is normal that some farmers prefer to stay with traditional means, as it also happens for the new latest generation cars. Innovators will find important advanced features for operator safety and comfort optimized on the MKV. For example, this tractor is equipped with a driving assistance system that helps the operator maintain control of the vehicle in difficult situations, such as uneven soil or an unstable load. Furthermore, the cameras enable advanced functions, integrating GPS localization where this is scarce or absent. On the road, autonomous driving is still a long way off, but in agriculture, some areas can profitably take advantage of such solutions as the Nvidia Jetson edge AI platform.

The energy performance is remarkable. According to the company, compared to a comparable diesel tractor, the electric model reduces emissions equivalent to 14 passenger vehicles.

MK-V is 100% electric and has zero tailpipe emissions. It works as a tractor, utility vehicle, and also as an electric generator. In the latter function, it is able of providing 40 HP (30 KW) of continuous power and a short-duration peak power of up to 75 HP (55 KW). It allows both assisting the driver and carrying out some operations without a driver.

Its batteries and other components have been developed in partnership with Foxconn.
