Orsero has Digitalized its Supply Chain
Fruttital has adopted the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations platform, developed with Cegeka and integrated with dedicated Agri & Fresh solutions, to improve cost, quality, and fresh produce logistics control.
Digital transformation has also become a strategic lever for the fruit and vegetable supply chain. This is the context for the path developed by the Orsero Group through Fruttital, the company that manages distribution in Italy, together with Cegeka. This initiative represents the evolution of a digitalization process launched in 2018 through Simba, this Group’s company dedicated to tropical fruit imports, also through Group’s maritime logistics. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, integrated with add-ons dedicated to the Agri & Fresh sector, connects sales, logistics, warehouses, and accounting, allowing customers to track every batch of fruit and vegetables throughout the entire distribution process and monitor not only their movement, but also their costs and margins.
This solution connects over 100 users across 15 Italian logistics and sales hubs and guarantees an up-to-date view of availability, processing, and sales conditions. Scanners and scales communicate directly with the management system, updating inventory, weights, and warehouse operations in real time, and providing salespeople with information always aligned for order management.
Francesco Carnovale, chief operating officer at Fruttital, explained: ‘Our business involves large volumes, but very small margins: this is why we have an extreme need for accuracy in detecting and attributing costs’.
Technological investment also supports the evolution of company’s product portfolio. Every year, Orsero sells over 890,000 tons of fruit and vegetables, with over 300 products. ‘We are gradually shifting our business toward higher-value products, such as avocados, mangoes, and berries. This means working with more targeted volumes, but also with many more references and with increasing operational complexity’.
The management system associates specific quality statuses with each batch and guides operators to the correct pallet, allowing them to prioritize products that need to be marketed more quickly. A key role is played by the hub in Verona, which combines warehouse, market operations, and fresh-cut laboratory, handling approximately 132,000 tons of fruit and vegetables each year. Future developments include the adoption of new technologies to be integrated into the system, in continuity with the introduction of handheld devices and tablets, which allow the users to operate on the platform on the move and without using paper.
