British retailer Morrisons has raised over £7 million for Save the Children, said the Retail Bulletin. Last year, Morrisons became the largest supporter of Save the Children’s work: the money will be used to fund the charity’s Families and Schools Together programme, which encourages families, schools and communities to build stronger bonds to ensure that children get the support they need to do well at school.
The partnership is also supporting the charity’s crisis grants programme Eat Sleep, Learn, Play! , which helps families with young children who are struggling to buy basic household items such as cookers and beds. In addition to supporting the charity’s work in the UK, the partnership has also raised funds for Save the Children’s Emergency Appeals, including appeals for the japanese earthquake and Tsunami, the food crises in East and West Africa, and most recently the Syria Crisis and Philippines Typhoon Appeals.
Morrisons chief executive, Dalton Philips, said in a official statement: “I am so proud that Morrisons colleagues and customers have raised an incredible £7 million for Save the Children since 2011 as part of our ‘Raise a Smile’ partnership. It has been a fantastic partnership that has enabled Save the Children to reach more families in the UK than ever before and has transformed the lives of children and families living in our local communities.”
Save the Children chief executive, Justin Forsyth, added: “Everyone at Save the Children has been completely overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and commitment of Morrisons colleagues and customers over the past three years. It will leave a lasting legacy in the UK and internationally for many years to come. Thank you from everyone at Save the Children.”
