An app for the Mediterranean Diet

dieta mediterranea

A smartphone app that guides consumers in shopping for foods suited to the regimen of the Mediterranean Diet. Called Nunacode, it’s one of three new spin-offs devised at Florence University by researchers working at the brain trust started three years ago in Tuscany’s capital and one of 23 such centres now active in the country.

Using Nunacode, notes a University opress release, «consumers can choose foods by photographing the bar code and Nuna will respond via its special traffic light». If the colour is green, “the food meets the consumer’s nutritional requirements “, if yellow, “proceed with caution”, and if red, “it’s not advisable “. The app’s colour for a given food changes in response to two key factors: “the pre-set dietary profile and the items already purchased”.
